Brandworkers 3rd Annual Labor Panel
We want to extend our gratitude to everyone who joined us at Court Square Theater on Thursday, August 22 for our panel discussion, “Amigas En La Lucha: A Panel Celebrating Women in the Labor Movement.” Whether you came after work, told a friend about the event, or sponsored our panel, you played a role in making it happen, and aided in amplifying the voices of organizers currently working on NYC based campaigns.
We would like to thank our co-sponsors, Families for Freedom, New York Communities for Change, Tompkins County Workers’ Center, Workers’ Center of Central New York, North New Jersey DSA, EWOC, the Guardians of Flushing Bay, Malikah, and Sen. Salazar for helping make the event possible.
The panel featured four organizers currently working on campaigns within NYC – Cait Cameila, co-founder of Hot Girls for Zohran, Hannah Lopez, lead organizer of the Protect ESSTA Campaign, Assembly Member Claire Valdez, and Ligia Guallpa, Executive Director of Workers Justice Project.
The panel was facilitated by Brandworkers own Lead Organizer, Yolanda Santoni. Each panelist shared their current campaign, and how they came to be involved in the organizing space. Together they discussed what challenges they continue to face in the space as women in the Labor Movement, and what keeps them going. Though our panelists traverse a wide range of campaigns, they discovered similar patterns in difficulties they have faced, and what keeps them fighting.
As we reflect on the stories shared during the panel, we’re reminded of the importance of solidarity and collective action in the fight for justice in the workplace. If you were unable to attend the panel or want to revisit the highlights, we’ve compiled a gallery of photos from the event below.
If you’re interested in getting involved and supporting workers like those featured in our panel, we encourage you to join our volunteer group, El Hormiguero. Together, we can make a difference by fighting for fair treatment and better working conditions for all.
Thank you once again for your support, and we look forward to continuing this important work together!
