Paul Duke’s COVID-19 Organizing Fundraiser for Brandworkers
Back food factory workers organizing for survival and long term power
Specialty food manufacturing workers are risking their lives to keep food in supply during the coronavirus pandemic. Workers need your solidarity to protect themselves now and to build power that lasts long after the crisis.
I am raising funds because food workers having been keeping us fed since before the pandemic, and have always been essential. While we knew their roles were essential many of us allowed ourselves to value the fruits of their labor more than their humanity. We have bought the boss’ narratives that because these workers are vulnerable, they deserve to be vulnerable. But that is wrong and we know it.
It is time to stand for the dignity and power to protect themselves that food workers have deserved all along, and to stand against those who purposely excluded these workers from that diginty.
Minimum wage, and poor working conditions, were never acceptable. Now that the pandemic has brought the struggle of food workers into sharp relief it is time that we all recognize their right to self determination and dignity.
Your gift funds worker-led organizing for safety and income support during the coronavirus crisis. Together, we will protect food workers on the frontlines while building power that endures for years to come.
Our gifts will help Brandworkers gather funds from 500 community members by May 1st. Visit Brandworkers.org/MayDay to see our progress and sign up to help.
